Dr. Heather Price is a certified music therapist (MTA), having also completed degrees in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and Music Education (DMA, MM, BMus.) Her teaching experience at the University of Eastern Oregon, Atlantic College (North Carolina) and Acadia University includes instruction in studio piano, keyboard harmony and improvisation, music therapy skills and resources, ear training and theory, liturgical music, African drumming, and elements of music for non- music majors.
Her quest as a classically trained musician and therapist, both for self and students, is to cultivate artistry through the experience of music as a creative process. Fostering a more intuitive, right brain approach to classical music and musicianship in no way diminishes the importance of having a strong analytical course of study rooted in the rigours of the discipline. It simply serves to caution classically trained musicians that one’s participation in the music can become distressingly unmusical when the elements of music are divorced from the elements of self awareness and expression.
Heather’s recent performance experience includes a CD recording of 20th century art songs with mezzo-soprano Paula Rockwell and a CBC recording with soprano Janice Jackson.
