Barbara received her secretarial training at Kings Regional Vocational School in Kentville, NS (now NSCC Kingstec Campus) graduating in June 1982, receiving academic honours with distinction. Since that time, she has continued her education through night courses in the areas of computers and accounting. She also attended the 31st Administrative Professionals course in Banff, May 2004.
From July, 1982 to July, 1983 Barbara held temporary positions in several departments at Acadia, relieving office overload, and working as replacement staff. She jumped into many departments including Personnel, Biology, Registrar’s Office, Purchasing, Business Manager of Dining Halls and Residences, Dean of Science Office, Home Economics, and Chemistry.
Barbara won her first full time position in July of 1983, working as Departmental Secretary / Technical Typist in the Chemistry Department.
In July of 1985, Barbara left the Chemistry Department for a job as Senior Administrative Secretary at Acadia’s School of Music. Since that time, she has seen the School of Music grow from 85 students and 13 full time professors to approximately 160 students and a faculty consisting of 15 full-time and 30 part-time faculty and staff.
In September, 1990 Barbara married Anthony Jordan, who also worked at Acadia, as Press Operator / Technician from 1987 to 2002.
In her free time, Barbara enjoys music, bicycling, skiing, gardening, refinishing antique furniture, photography, sailing, and travel.
