Claire Mallin is an active choral conductor, voice teacher, soloist and music therapist. She received her BMus with distinction in Vocal Performance from McGill University, her BMus in Music Therapy from the Université du Québec and her MMus in Vocal Performance from the Université de Montréal.
Ms Mallin studied choral conducting at the Université de Sherbrooke, Westminster Choir College and the Montreal Choral Institute under conductor Michael Zaugg and has adjudicated vocal and choral classes at music festivals in Quebec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. In 2012, Ms Mallin was unanimously selected to receive the Iwan Edwards Award for choral conducting excellence from the Montreal Choral Institute. That same year she was invited to sing the role of the 1st Lady in Mozart’s Magic Flute with the Maritime Concert Opera. Ms Mallin is a sought after choral clinician and has presented at NSMEA as well as teaching at the Halifax Summer Choral Conducting Institute in 2013. As past president of the Nova Scotia Choral Federation, Ms Mallin was closely involved in the organisation of the very successful Podium 2014 – our Canadian national biannual choral conference and festival which was held in Halifax.
Ms. Mallin a is a full time faculty member at the Acadia University School of Music where she teaches Applied Voice, Music Therapy Voice Class, Music Education courses, Choral Conducting and conducts the Acadia Vocal Ensemble. Ms Mallin is currently pursuing a PhD in Music Education (choral conducting pedagogy) at Université Laval in Quebec City. Her areas of research interest are: somatic music education (in particular Dalcroze Eurythmics), Body Mapping for musicians and the use of vocal training as a self-regulating mechanism in Music Therapy.
