On Thursday, November 12, the Acadia School of Music’s Concert & Lecture Series presents “The Political Leonard Cohen” – a talk by Dr. Kait Pinder. A Saturday Night Live performance, a viral poem about Kanye West, "Hallelujah" at a political rally––since his death in 2016, Leonard Cohen has made several appearances as a commentator, a judge, or even a collaborator in American politics. What is Canada's "secular saint" doing here? This talk examines how these appearances relate to the latent thread of political critique in his career and reflects on how are remembered and reimagined by different audiences after their deaths. Dr. Pinder is an Associate Professor of English and Head of the Department of English and Theatre at Acadia University. This event begins at 1:00pm in the Festival Theatre, 509 Main St., Wolfville.
