NS Youth Choir - Seeking Light (Denton)

“Seeking Light” - Reignited Nova Scotia Youth Choir program makes triumphant return with concerts in Acadia's Denton Hall, Wolfville on September 22 at 1:30pm (and later in Halifax).

In a program entitled “Seeking Light”, 35 of the most talented young singers from across the province will raise their voices together as the revived Nova Scotia Youth Choir in performances on Sunday, September 22 in Wolfville (1:30pm) and Halifax (7:30pm).

The Nova Scotia Youth Choir program, run by the Nova Scotia Choral Federation, is an ensemble that provides musical training for singers ages 16-25 from across the province. It is an opportunity to work intensively towards artistic excellence, develop musicianship, and perform together with some of the most accomplished and recognized instructors and conductors in Canada.

On hiatus since Covid, this is an exciting year of rejuvenation and growth as we welcome a new generation of choristers into this nationally renowned program.

Dr. Jamie Hillman, from the University of Toronto, is the guest conductor for this season, supported by a faculty of fine musicians dedicated to education in vocal performance and musicianship - Amelia McMahon and Andrew Cranston as resident conductors, Adam Johnson on piano, and Maureen Batt, Ryan Henwood and Dr. Nicole Jordan as guest vocal coaches and clinicians.

In “Seeking Light”, the singers will weave together a program of uplifting music of diverse styles and will feature many Canadian composers like Marie-Claire Saindon, Tracy Wong, Matthew Emery and Andrew Balfour.

Concerts take place Sunday, September 22 at 1:30 pm at Denton Hall, Acadia University, Wolfville and at 7:30pm at The Joseph Strug Hall, Fountain School of the Performing Arts, Halifax.  Tickets are $25/$10 (students), available to reserve at www.nscf.ca, or at the door.
