AUSOM Concert Series - Dr. Sara Brooks (FTB)

2024-10-03 13:00

On Thursday, October 3, the Acadia School of Music Concert & Lecture Series presents a talk by Dr. Sara Brooks.

Mental wellness in music: where do we even begin? With countless demands on personal and academic time, many music students may feel that are unable to reflect on their own mental wellness needs. Some students may even find themselves as the first point of contact for friends and colleagues, and may often be required to support mental health challenges of others. How do we take time to support our mental wellness needs while balancing the demands of a music career? How do we support the mental health needs of our friends? This session will address common career challenges and individual mental wellness tools for musicians. It will also give attendees take-home tools to support their mental health.

A graduate of the Acadia School of Music, Dr. Sara Brooks now works as a registered psychotherapist and counsellor based in Kitchener, Ontario.

This event begins at 1:00pm in FESTIVAL THEATRE.

Concert & Lecture Series events are free and all are welcome to attend – please join us!

AUSOM Concert Series - Singing In Flanders Fields (FTB)

2024-10-10 13:00

On Thursday, October 10, the Acadia School of Music Concert & Lecture Series presents “Reflections on Singing In Flanders Fields.”

In the spring of 2024, members of the Acadia University Singers embarked on an incredible choir tour across France and Belgium.  Participating in WWI-oriented research projects conducted by Dr. Michelle Boyd (School of Music) and Wendy Robicheau (Acadia Archives), the choir offered concerts, visited the gravesites of Acadia’s WWI soldiers, and – literally – sang in Flanders Fields.  In this presentation, Michelle and the choir will share photos and recordings as they discuss their experiences and reflections from this deeply impactful trip.

This event begins at 1:00pm in FESTIVAL THEATRE.

Concert & Lecture Series events are free and all are welcome to attend – please join us!
