Degrees and Programs

The School of Music is currently offering admissions to:

Bachelor of Music

Our music core is highly distinct from other programs nationally. We develop our students’ basic competencies in many non-traditional ways allowing us to meet a more diverse student base. By offering courses such as Practising Music, Theory and Keyboard, Musicianship, and Music through the Ages our students experience music in a more holistic and integrated context. Experiential learning opportunities are imbedded into the curriculum, connection to community and social justice is woven within all musical experiences, and capstone projects that develop leadership and collaborative skills are intertwined throughout this degree.

Bachelor of Arts in Music

The Bachelor of Arts in Music degree provides a well-rounded degree path for students interested in pursuing the academic study of music within a Liberal Arts framework. This program places a large emphasis on interdisciplinarity, while still allowing for students to fully participate in all performance-based options. The Honours option (BAMH) of this degree is designed for students who wish to pursue a more vigorous research opportunity within the academic study of musicology by completing an Honours Thesis.

Music as a Second Major

This option provides any student at Acadia the opportunity to choose music as a second major.

Specifically created to allow those students who loved band, choir, music theatre, orchestra in high school to continue to pursue music for credit along with their other passions.

Currently our Music Therapy Program has paused admissions

As part of an overall process of curriculum change and renewal, the School of Music Faculty Council has decided to pause admissions to the music therapy program. This includes both the Bachelor of Music Therapy program and the Certificate of Music Therapy diploma.
While this was a difficult decision, it was supported by budgetary considerations, program numbers, and availability of current and potentially future resources.
We encourage students interested in music at Acadia to look at our other pathways that provide authentic experiential learning experiences, connections to community, and possibilities for deeper understanding of the pivotal role all musicians bring to the human experience.
