On Thursday, September 21, the Acadia University School of Music Concert & Lecture Series – in collaboration with the Deep Roots Music Festival – presents a talk by Dylan Jewers, "Modern Folk: Song Collecting and The Folk music industry in 21st Century Nova Scotia."
Dylan Jewers is an arts administrator, label runner, and folklorist based in Dartmouth, NS, and the creator of a recent CBC Gem documentary called “ROOTED,” about traditional music in Nova Scotia.
In this talk exploring the evolution of folk music in Nova Scotia and beyond, Dylan will explain his work with the Helen Creighton collection, and how contemporary methods of folklore and song collecting differ from those of the 20th and 19th century.
This event begins at 1:00pm in the Festival Theatre Building.
