Acadia University’s Young Composers Workshop is a one-day intensive for young musicians aged 13 to 18 who are interested in writing original music. Hosted by the Acadia University School of Music (AUSOM), this hands-on experience introduces students to the creative process of composition through workshops, improvisation, personalized guidance, peer discussion, and a masterclass with a university composition professor and Juno Nominated composer, Peter-Anthony Togni, offering students insight into university-level composition study and professional perspectives on developing their musical ideas.
This workshop is ideal for young musicians who are curious about composition or looking to strengthen their creative skills in a supportive and collaborative environment. Prior composition experience is welcome but not required.
The day will include:
- 4 Group composition workshop sessions
- Independent composing time in practice rooms
- 1:1 feedback with instructors - Guided peer listening and collaborative feedback session
- Masterclass with Peter-Anthony Togni
- Access to campus facilities and creative spaces

- Your instrument
- Packed lunch or cash for Subway
- Device with notation software (optional)
NOTE: Notation software is not necessary for this workshop. If you choose to use it at the workshop, please come with prior experience
