Acadia School of Music’s Concert & Lecture Series - Jack Chen, Eileen Walsh & Mary Castello - Denton Hall (1:00 pm)

On Thursday, January 22, the Acadia School of Music’s Concert & Lecture Series will feature a performance by Eileen Walsh (clarinet/bass clarinet), Jack Chen (flute), and Mary Castello (piano) – a trio of AUSOM faculty members who have been collaborating for several years. 

This performance centers around composers of African heritage that were influential in the trio's artistic development, including performers and teachers that inspired them. They will perform the Canadian premiere of David Baker's "And then" for bass clarinet and piano, "Cerulean Blues" for flute and piano by Maria Thompson Corley, "Troubled Water" for solo piano by Margaret Bonds, and "Portraits of Langston" by Valerie Coleman. 

This presentation begins at 1:00pm in Denton Hall Auditorium.

On Thursday, February 5, the Acadia School of Music Concert & Lecture Series presents “On Music and the Natural World” – a presentation by Dr. Michael Donovan. 

With a background in Deep Ecology, composer, singer and musicologist Dr. Michael Donovan will share thoughts, music and reflections on the role of nature in music, and its importance in today’s world. A scholar on the depiction of nature in Franz Schubert’s poetic settings, Donovan’s past, current and future projects reflect an ongoing exploration of how music can play a role in fostering ecological awareness and providing solace in a changing world. 

This event begins at 1:00pm in the FESTIVAL THEATRE.

Acadia University’s Piano Intensive is a program for young pianists aged 13 to 18, in the beautiful town of Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Hosted by the Acadia University School of Music (AUSOM), this weekend retreat will offer young artists an opportunity to meet and work closely with university faculty through private instruction, public performance, workshops and social activities for a weekend of collaborative music-making. Throughout the program, students will have access to pianos on campus as well as opportunities to perform and receive dedicated one-on-one coaching and feedback towards future projects and artistic goals.
